In 2023, Kelcy Warren made history at his alma mater. The Energy Transfer founder delivered a $12 million gift to the University of Texas-Arlington, the largest single donation in the school’s history. The funds were designated to advance the university’s resource and energy engineering program, a field Warren described as critical to meeting Texas’s growing demand for trained energy professionals.

A Long Relationship With UTA

Warren graduated from UT-Arlington in 1978 and has maintained ties to the institution ever since. Before the 2023 gift, Warren had donated $4 million across 10 separate contributions over 25 years, supporting Texas Tier One strategic research and establishing a graduate fellowship in honor of his former professor and mentor, Syed Qasim.

The 2023 contribution went further, aiming to position UTA at the leading edge of resource and energy engineering education. “I am honored to give back to the institution that has played such a pivotal role in advancing my educational and professional journeys,” Kelcy Warren said in a university news release.

Broader Educational Commitment

Warren’s support for education does not stop at the university level. He regularly contributes to institutions from grade school through higher education, along with organizations including the MD Anderson Cancer Center and the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center. He also serves on the University of Texas System Board of Regents, an appointment made by Governor Greg Abbott.

The Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship at UTA is among his earlier contributions, reflecting a consistent belief that access to quality education is a long-term investment in both communities and industries. Kelcy Warren has framed giving to UT-Arlington as part of a broader obligation to the state that shaped his career. Refer to this article for additional information.
