When Justin Nelson graduated from Tufts University in 1998, landing a job at a prestigious

Managing Director at JP Morgan but also a significant bridge for Tufts students

internship opportunities in finance. Without on-campus recruitment from
financial firms, he relied on personal connections to secure a web development
internship at JP Morgan in New York City. This initial break laid the
groundwork for his eventual full-time position at the firm.
Recognizing the challenges he faced, Nelson committed to making the path smoother for future
Tufts graduates. In 2006, he initiated efforts to establish Tufts as one of JP
Morgan’s core schools for recruitment. This designation would assure an active
recruitment presence on campus, facilitating direct access to internships and jobs for students.
Initially, Justin Nelson faced logistical and financial hurdles, operating without the support typically
afforded to representatives from core schools. Despite these challenges, his
dedication bore fruit. By 2009, due to the consistent quality of recruits,
Tufts was officially recognized as a core school by JP Morgan. Since then,
approximately 20 Tufts graduates have secured positions at the firm, thanks to Nelson’s efforts.
One notable success story is Jon Trott, a 2010 graduate, who secured an internship at JP Morgan
during the 2009 financial crisis. Trott credits Nelson’s support as
instrumental in his career journey. Today, a robust network of Tufts alumni at
JP Morgan actively participates in recruitment, screening résumés, and mentoring current students.
Beyond his recruitment initiatives, Justin Nelson has also contributed to the Tufts Financial Network, sharing his industry insights through speaking
engagements. His efforts underscore his commitment to both his alma mater and his professional community.
